Teaching Pastels at Laguna Gloria This Fall

"I've taken several classes before but S'zanne brings new info and insights. I'll take this very same course again." --Lizette, student

In my workshops, students will strengthen drawing and painting skills while discovering and/or fine-tuning their own painting style. I'll work with you one-on-one to facilitate establishing individual daily painting practices or rituals, to increase productivity and instill more confidence and freedom.

A Testimonial on My Summer Art Classes

"This class was a very positive experience for our 5 year old, Emma. She was excited to go to class every day and was very proud of her art work each day. I was glad to have an itinerary at the beginning of the week and then to see the whole class' work at the end of the week. Also, I was glad to see that they used a variety of materials in the class. Overall it was a great experience for us and we will definitely plan to take classes at Laguna Gloria again."

From Peacocks to Piranhas

Peacocks roam the grounds of the art school and would often come to our door completely distracting the kids from class. Sometimes the only way to get them back on track was to ask them to draw the peacocks with crayon and oil pastel...which they did quite well after a quick chalk board lesson on how to draw a peacock. Kids at this age (4-5) are unsure of their skills, but once shown how to draw something, can usually run with it after practice.

Since the theme was Castles, Kings and Queens--we added a royal crown to the children's self-portraits. They got a real kick out of it!

Special thanks to Patty at Deep Space Sparkle for her inspiration behind most of these lesson plans. I had to alter them somewhat to fit the class theme and the three hour time span, but I would have been at a total loss as to what to teach 4-5 year olds this summer without her help!!!! So, thank you so much Patty!

My new favorite discovery was how much kids love watercolors...just give them a sharpie and then have them watercolor in their drawing--they LOVE it! And clean up is so EASY for me!!!
