International Sketch Crawl

I plan on participating in the World Wide Sketch Crawl (www.sketchcrawl.com) this Saturday, February 27, 2010...in south Austin.

If you want to join us, I have a small group meeting at Jo's Coffee at 1300 S. Congress at 8 a.m.
I'll be bringing my pens, pencils, paper, water color and some pastels...maybe a camera.

Then I'm crawling my way over to San Antonio...let me know if you want to join me there, too!

Listening for Each Other's Greatness

A really different style for me, this painting was commissioned by a client for her Valentine. Inspired by Chagall, I've only painted one other image similar to this one...many years ago, of a dream. It was really fun to see how I was able to "read" or intuit what the client wanted to be represented in their relationship. It was a pleasure and an honor to work on something so important to them. It really set something in me free...and I'm looking forward to exploring more of this dreamlike painting perspective.

...the last few...

Here is the last of the lot...I haven't posted all of them as I didn't remember to take photos of the first several. And, I could keep going...but it's time to stop and move on to other endeavors. It has been a fun experiment in seeing that I can paint almost 40 small paintings in about 2 weeks. The secret is not being afraid to paint badly. So some turned out better than others...but the inner-critic didn't keep me from being productive! It was a good lesson in painting.

The Christmas Card Challenge

Amidst cookie baking, holiday parties, classes and art shows, I struggled to manage the traditional self-imposed stress and business of the Season with painting. So, I decided to challenge myself, to make sure I painted during the holidays, by creating a series of Christmas cards for friends and family.

They are quick studies of newborns and mermaids, sailing and travel memories, abstracts and floral imaginings, and dreams of making "sugar plums" 'n candy with grandma who always delighted in saying, "Christmas, Christmas, hee hoo, hee hoo!"














So in remembrance of loved ones, family and friends this Christmas, past and present, near and far-- I dedicate these small paintings and well wishes for prosperity and good health in the New Year of 2010. Merry Christmas to you all!
